The overall objective of this innovation project is testing and packaging of silicon photonic devices for next-generation NG-PON2 and cellular transport networks in Beyond-5G technology. For this purpose, the following objectives were defined:
1. Advanced optical access networks: characterization of silicon devices in the 1260-1630 of silicon devices in the 1260 to 1630 nm length band to be used in advanced networks complying with the NG-PON2 standard.
2. Beyond-5G high-frequency signal transmission objective: Testing, characterization and demonstration of high-bandwidth, mm-wave signal transmission up to 110 GHz (minimum) with at least 4-channel MIMO and beamforming capability with beam pointing.
3. Integrated device packaging objective 3: Assembly of prototypes and products (in small series) in silicon photonics technology for end-user control and interconnection by means of standard optical (optical fibers) and electrical (DC and RF connectors) connections in accordance with objectives 1 and 2 above.
